Bahrain will be transformed into a playground of fun and activities for the next 30 days following the launch of the fourth edition of Shop Bahrain.

The nationwide shopping festival promises to offer unique family entertainment, shopping promotions and raffle draws with valuable prizes.

The initiative’s major attraction, Festival City – located in Bahrain Bay, opened its doors to visitors yesterday (January 11), featuring a festive atmosphere with game stalls, amusement rides and live performances.

Residents and visitors from neighbouring countries were greeted by fanciful structures, well-lit spaces and stilt-walkers performing daring feats with fire. Kids had much more to be excited about with numerous rides to choose from, an outdoor cinema and a ‘hammock haven’.

An outdoor market featuring local vendors and restaurants has also been lined up.

The Festival City was launched by Zayed R Alzayani, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, and Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), in the presence of other officials and the media.

The festival, co-organised by BTEA and Tamkeen, is held in cooperation with partners from the public and private sectors such as Viva, Gulf Air and Y K AlMoayyed.

“We are pleased to launch the fourth edition of Shop Bahrain, which is a unique celebration filled with plenty of surprises for the entire family. We hope to further drive the growth of the tourism and retail sectors in the kingdom and further position Bahrain as a welcoming destination,” said Shaikh Khalid.

The ‘Festival City’ will continue for two weeks until January 27 and will open its doors to the public from 4 pm until 10 pm on the weekdays and from 4 pm until 11 pm on the weekends.

Shop Bahrain will also see the return of ‘TasteTour’ which will include a total of 40 participating restaurants. Participants will be able to sample dishes and vote for their favourite restaurants.

Shop Bahrain will also include a line-up of entertaining activities at the participating shopping malls. Shoppers will be enrolled in the festival’s loyalty system when purchasing directly from any participating outlet, allowing them to win a wide range of prizes.

Shoppers and visitors can learn more about "Shop Bahrain" through the website: www.shopbahrain.com or through their official account @shopbahrain on social networking channels Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
