UAE 5G Conference concludes on solid note

The UAE 5G Conference, organized by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) concluded today (December 9) marking the participation of more than 400 international experts who discussed the challenges and opportunities related to 5G.

The event was held in The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina under the title "The Next Revolution”.

Over the course of two days, eight sessions were held that touched on the most important issues related to 5G technologies and their potential impact on various aspects of economic, social, educational and commercial life, and gave a clear picture of the vital role that 5G networks will play in the near future, and the investment opportunities that the new generation will create.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA director general, highlighted the importance of this conference as it is in line with the country’s efforts in future shaping and entering the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to serve the higher goals of achieving sustainable development and happiness for society.

 Al Mansoori said: “The UAE 5G Conference is not just regular event. It represents an important view of the 5G era, and an inspiration for many people who want to know the effects of 5G on our lives. The conference guests reviewed the most important issues related to 5G networks, and their great potential, through which countries can achieve leaps in various fields, especially those related to digital transformation, smart cities and the application of the Internet of Things.”

Al Mansoori emphasized that the UAE has always been proactive in adopting and embracing all initiatives and innovations that enhance the happiness and well-being of society.

He added: “Our journey with 5G started after the WRC-15, with the aim of facilitating and accelerating the introduction of 5G to the country. We have learned from our wise leadership to race against time in our preparations for the future, in line with the UAE vision 2021, which provides for the creation of a competitive knowledge economy based on innovation.

“The UAE today is now one of 14 countries that have introduced 5G applications in their communications system. We are proud that 5G at this moment covers about 30% of the populated areas in the UAE. In Abu Dhabi, coverage increased to 60 per cent. In some areas, the coverage reached 100%, as in the case of Expo 2020, Global Village and the Formula One.”

Tariq Al Awadhi, executive director Spectrum Affairs, said: “These 2 days have been a good learning with insights from international organizations like ITU, IEEE, ICNIRP, and our distinguished dignitaries, regional groups, telecom operators, technical experts, academia, telecom vendors, and experts from the industry.

“We learnt about the readiness and plans of the regional countries and the commitment on 5G.With each generation of mobile the technology deployment and standardization is now coming together. We have to understand the user expectations and public concerns. 5G has a potential in addressing climate change and improve our daily lives.” – TradeArabia News Service
