Saipem wins $750m Oman refinery project deal

Saipem, one of the world leaders in drilling services, said it has secured an onshore engineering and construction contract worth $750 million from Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries Company in Oman.

Duqm Refinery is a joint venture between the Oman Oil Company, the sultanate's national oil company, and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI).

The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning under Package 3 “Offsite Facilities” in the framework of the development of the Duqm Refinery situated near the coast in the north east of Oman, said a statement from Saipem.

Once completed, the refinery will have a capacity of around 230,000 barrels per day, it added.

On the contract win, Saipem CEO Stefano Cao said: "We welcome with particular satisfaction the awarding of this new contract which signals the relaunch of our activities in Oman, a country in which Saipem has operated successfully in the past."

Saipem has distinctive competences in operations in harsh environments, remote areas and deepwater, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
